     Title: Happy New Year
So much has happened in the last year, most of it though, in the last few months. What lay’s in store for the next 12 months, only time can tell.

At the start of the year, there were a handful of kiters using the green spaces of Capstone Farm Country Park to get together and fly power kites, trying desperately to learn how to landboard or buggy with varying degrees of success.

Days spent at the beach learning from others were probably the most valuable, but waiting for the tides and winds to be right was frustrating to say the least.

It was around summertime when the first few kiters were joined by half a dozen more, the crowd was growing and in amazing style. People from all walks of life sharing in the exiting world of power kiting.

The summer meet was superb, and the newer kiters were keen to learn a few tips from those who had been in the sport a few months longer.

Every week people were meeting up via the Racekites forum and a good social community was in the making.

In October the ‘community’ found an official identity, the Medway Flyers Sports Club. A group of like-minded individuals with one goal, ‘To have a blast whilst kiting’. Under the sports club banner, we managed to get affiliated with one of the countries leading insurance providers within the sport, the BPKA.

Every one of our members has BPKA insurance. This helps show that we respect the fact that power kiting can be a dangerous sport. Accidents can happen, but with a few guidelines here and there, they can be minimised and hopefully ruled out all together.

In November a social event was held to help people get to know each other a bit better. The only time we were getting to talk to each other was when we were too knackered to fly anymore.

It was time for Go Ape. A high-wire assault course that was an incredibly tough workout but so much fun, then we all went down the pub for a meal and a pint.

Now this year is coming to a close and a new one is about to start. If I have half as much fun next year as I did this year, I’ll be happy. (I’ll be happier if I actually get to do a couple of tricks on the landboard).

The time spent power kiting in Kent this year was awesome. The people I’ve meet and the things I’ve accomplished, like; camping at Camber (not since I was 9 have I been camping), GoApe, a Kite Surfing course, creating a sports club, introducing family and friends into the world of power kiting and meeting new people all the time. All these things help to make the Medway Flyers a fun and social sports club.

So no matter what your skill set is, get online, find out when and where we are out and meet up with us.

Hopefully next year will be a good year for the Medway Flyers with loads of trips away in the pipeline, more social events and a chance to meet new people.

Bring on 2010!

Happy New Year!
